The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority estimates that Sin City is on pace to host 39 million visitors in 2011, a whisker away from the record 39.2 million visitors in 2007 when people were carefree about their finances and spending was made with little regard for tomorrow, the realities of the economic downturn not yet a factor, the specter of a prolonged recession a laughable provocation against the pleasures of living free and spending like Kings. Of course, the sobering effects post the 2007 heydays is not lost on the entertainment industry, particularly Las Vegas which saw its visits plummet unlike any other time in its history.

It is with great anticipation then that experts are viewing the Las Vegas turnaround, with a record 314,000 revelers expected to come in from out of town, descending onto the strip on New Year’s Ever, forking out premium prices at packed hotels, mobbing clubs for a glimpse of party royalties such as the Black Eyed Peas and Stevie Wonder, taking in the New Year for all it is worth, partying like it’s well, 2012. A scant few might even evoke the popular theme of the end of the world as per the Maya Calendar, and justify the outlandish night on the town on the possibility that this might be the last.

Observers expect that the 2012 New Year extravaganza will yield non-gaming revenues of nearly $193 million, a fair prediction given expectations that the city will fill 98% of its 150,189 rooms on that evening.
