Matt Damon Stars in Contagion

Matt Damon Attending Contagion Premier in Venice

Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon are attending the Venice Film Festival in support of their upcoming film, Contagion. As the name suggests, the movie revolves around the spreading of a deadly disease that has reached around the world, claiming millions of lives in the process. The movie opens with a couple played by Paltrow and Damon who unwittingly find themselves in the middle of the disaster.

Scott Burns, who created the script, intimated that the story was based in part on the actual outbreak of SARS in China in 2003. Soderbergh brings together on a global scale the fear and panic inherent in the unknown and he juxtaposes this chaos with individual tales of sacrifice. Cotillard and Fishburne star as health officials seeking answers to a disease that seems to know no bounds.

Interestingly, when Paltrow was asked if she would allow her children to view the death and violence-filled Contagion, she replied that “My kids can’t even watch ‘Babe’, so I don’t know…” She joked during a press conference: “I think that if death by virus was a punishment for extra-marital affairs there may be only about three dudes left in this room right now. Maybe less because we’re in Italy.”

The cast of Contagion includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne, Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Ehle. Paltrow, Damon, Fishburne and Cotillard among others were in Venice for the world premiere.
