The Ten Happiest and Most Satisfying Jobs according to Chicago Survey

The General Social Survey released its results on the 10 happiest jobs. The survey was conducted by University of Chicago’s National Organization for Research. The result may be a bit surprising because the jobs are not exactly high paying and the work description is not even complicated.

Here are the 10 happiest jobs according to the survey:

1. Firefighters – helping other people may have contributed to their job satisfaction.
2. Authors – the royalty which they receive for published reading materials are almost non-existent but seeing the product of their own minds may have led to their happiness.
3. Teachers – despite the government’s budget constraints, teachers are generally happy with their work as their profession gives them the opportunity to create their own legacy through young students’ future.
4. Clergy – this is, according to the survey, the happiest of all.
5. Artists – despite the challenge and difficulty of making money out of their creations, painters and sculptors reported high job satisfaction.
6. Physical therapists – aside from helping other people, social interaction may have also made this job among the happiest.
7. Psychologists – aside from solving other people’s dilemmas, they may have also found a way to solve their own.
8. Operating engineers – backhoes, shovels, large pumps, air compressors and huge bulldozers may seem like toys to them hence, they have fun at work.
9. Special education teachers – the joy of helping others in need of attention may have made this job one of the happiest.
10. Financial services sales agents – comfortable work environment plus handling $90,000 in average yearly may have contributed to its high job satisfaction.
