R&B singer Vesta Williams was found dead in a hotel room in Southern California on Friday. The diva’s death at 53 was reportedly caused by a possible drug overdose.

Capt. John Kades, L.A. County coroner, said that an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death of the R&B diva and the examination will take about six weeks.

Born on December 1, 1957, Williams popularized songs such as “Sweet, Sweet Love”, “Congratulations” and “Once Bitten Twice Shy”. She also appeared in a few movies and television shows including “Posse” and “Sister, Sister”.

Williams began her career as a back-up singer of famous singers Anita Baker, Sting and Chaka Khan but she later established a solid singing career through her first album release 1986 entitle “Vesta”. She continued to release albums and became a regular performer on different concerts.

Before her passing, Williams was supposed to grace the 21st annual concert in Los Angeles entitled “Divas Simply Singing!” next month. The show that will be held on the 22nd of October will now pay tribute to the late singer.
